Season’s greetings from the Mokelumne River Hatchery in San Joaquin County. Twice a week during November hatchery staff collect the returning salmon and steelhead to capture and fertilize eggs – so we can raise and release them into the Mokelumne River, east of Lodi. This day staff handled 559 fish and collected 830 thousand eggs. The number of fish this year was down, but the size was up – several fish reaching the 30 pound mark. | California Department of Fish and Wildlife
