Today marks the 75th anniversary of the Babi Yar Massacre in Ukraine. Nearly 34,000 Jews from Kyiv were shot to death on September 29 and 30, 1941, by SS and German police units and their auxiliaries at Babi Yar, a ravine in the northwest of the city. Mirgazim Sabirov was a teenager when he witnessed firsthand the mass execution of the Jewish people. Immediately his family decided to rescue a Jewish family from Babi Yar and hid them in their cellar for the remainder of the occupation of Kiev. |
