It’s a tying day! Here are three hackle-tying techniques to keep your flies clean and avoid over-dressing—something I see new tiers struggle with all the time. One of the most common mistakes I come across when teaching is sloppy hackle tying, which takes up too much space on the hook and, worse, often unravels or breaks at the stem.
