Sleep paralysis, being paralysed upon falling asleep or awakening, affects about 1 in 5 people globally. Dr. Baland Jalal has experienced it since he was a teenager and has spent roughly a decade trying to work out the science behind this mysterious phenomenon and how best to avoid its potentially traumatising impacts.
