Drop a 🦷 if you’ve heard this as a RDH As much as I love and respect dentists… not for me! I love the preventive aspect of being a dental hygienist, and I am so happy I chose this path. Many think becoming a dentist is the natural “step up” from being a hygienist but they’re two totally different mindsets and skill sets. And our patients need both! A lot has happened in just several months. It started with allowing foreign trained dentists and dental students to do hygiene. Then the OPA position was created, this would allow dental assistants to do scale supra and probe. The latest was a Nevada bill (that was not passed) which would allow anyone to be trained on the job by a dentist to become a “hygienist” We will continue to see more and more of this until we can all work TOGETHER to solve the staffing shortage/retention issues in dentist
