January can be a bit dark and depressing sometimes, but in 1959 it brought some real heat with the release of the album "Moanin'" with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, now a revered hard bop classic. This Bob Mintzer arrangement of the title track features Jazzmeia Horn on vocals, with solos by Ruud Breuls on trumpet, and John Goldsby on bass, conducted by Mike Abene.
