CODA kids understand Deaf culture early. My hearing daughter recognized my friend’s Deaf daughters right away. There is nothing wrong with hearing CODA children socializing with Deaf children — it’s GOOD. It shows them that Deaf is normal, ASL is normal, and differences are beautiful. These barriers need to break. Deaf children deserve to feel included, not isolated. And when hearing kids learn ASL, they open the door for more friendships, more understanding, and a better world for our Deaf comm
