The Kansas City Royals have designated Rich Hill for assignment a week after the 45-year-old left-hander pitched in the first game of his 21st big league season.

Hill could be claimed on waivers, but if he isn’t plucked by another team he can join the Royals’ Triple A team or become a free agent.

The Kansas City Royals and right-hander Seth Lugo have agreed to a two-year extension that includes a vesting option for the 2028 season, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Sunday night.

Trade Seth Lugo? How about extending him? The Royals on Monday finalized a two-year contract extension with Lugo, committing to the right-handed veteran starter until at least 2027 and ending any talk of Lugo leaving Kansas City this summer or the offseason.
