Indiana's IU Health Notifies Patients of Potential Data Breach Involving Social Security Numbers and Medical Information

IU Health detected unusual activity on an employee's email account on Nov. 8, and upon further investigation with a third-party forensics firm, found that an unauthorized recipient had access to the account between Aug. 27 and Oct. 2, according to a news release.

The breach was identified Nov. 8 after unusual activity was detected on the team member's account. IU Health, according to a Jan. 7 news release, immediately launched an investigation and engaged an external forensics firm to confirm the security of its systems and determine the scope of the compromise.
IU Health says some Social Security numbers possibly accessed in 'security incident'
The health care system said it began notifying those impacted on Jan. 2 and is offering call center support to answer questions.
