Tuesday’s game started with Rays leadoff hitter Yandy Diaz lacing a single to right off Yankees lefthander Max Fried, then Jonathan Aranda hit a grounder right to shortstop Anthony Volpe, who was positioned just on the shortstop side of second base.

"I know the standard that I have for myself," Volpe said, "and I'm just going to keep pushing until I just prove it to myself every day."
