Utah's well-known bison herd in the Henry Mountains are genetically pure descendants of 18 Yellowstone National Park bison transplanted to the area in 1941.

UTAH HERD Utah’s Bookcliffs bison herd dates back to 1986, when the Uintah and Ouray Ute tribes began reintroducing them, according to Andy Holland, Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s big game manager.
