The Supreme Court on Monday cleared the way for Trump to destroy the Department of Education. In May, a federal judge in Massachusetts issued an injunction barring the administration from firing 1,300 of the just over 4,000 employees of the agency.

The Supreme Court is allowing President Donald Trump to put his plan to dismantle the Education Department back on track — and to go through with laying off nearly 1,400 employees.

Lawyers for the Trump administration had asked the justices to block a lower court order that directed officials to reinstate thousands of fired employees.
