"It’s hard to believe the devastation," Trump said. "Trees that are 100 years old just ripped out of the ground. I've never seen anything like this, and I've seen a lot of bad ones."

Mr. Trump and Abbott promised to rebuild the devastated region, although the president recognized that what was lost can never be recovered.

KERRVILLE, Texas (AP) — President Donald Trump on Friday toured the devastation from catastrophic flooding in Texas and lauded state and local officials, even amid mounting criticism that they may have failed to warn residents quickly enough that a deadly wall of water was coming their way.

A large majority of the deaths from last weekend's flooding occured in Kerrville and the surrounding area. At least 120 people have been killed across Texas, with 161 still missing. Trump will be joined in Kerrville by Governor Greg Abbott and Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.

While he’s been in communities after hurricanes and tornadoes, President Trump said the devastation he saw after an aerial tour of the flood-ravaged Texas Hill Country on Friday was different.

Gov. Greg Abbott has acknowledged DOJ concerns that some districts were drawn “along strict racial lines.” Critics say it’s a political ploy.
