The second season of the HBO and Sony Pictures TV drama “The Last of Us” will launch in April, Sony confirmed Monday during the electronics giant’s presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Sony seems determined to turn every PlayStation game in its library into a movie or TV show — and it has continued that push by announcing that it’s developing live-action movies based on Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2.

Sony has announced live-action movies based on its Helldivers and Horizon franchises, as well as a Ghost of Tsushima anime adaptation.

Sony has big Hollywood plans for its hit gaming franchises. The PlayStation 5 maker announced a series of new movie spin-offs at CES 2025 this week, including movie versions of Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn,

Helldivers 2, from developer Arrowhead, is of course heavily inspired by cult classic sci-fi movie Starship Troopers. It sees soldiers of the future struggle to defend a fascist Super Earth regime against alien robots called Automatons and bugs called Terminids all the while preaching "Managed Democracy."

The Helldivers 2 film is one of a number of adaptations announced by Sony at CES, including film productions of Horizon Zero Dawn and Until Dawn, and an anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima — not to mention the release window for The Last of Us Season 2.
