Rio Takeda overcame a double bogey at the turn with four birdies over her final seven holes Thursday for a 5-under 67 to share the lead with Eri Okayama in an AIG Women’s Open that featured a Japanese surge and a mixed day for Lottie Woad.

PORTHCAWL, WALES – It was both rain and shine on the first day of the Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl.

Thirty days ago, on July 1, Woad was still an amateur, a rising senior at Florida State University. At the AIG Women’s Briths Open, she’s a professional, a member of the LPGA, winner of two professional tournaments and the betting favorite to win the last major of the season.
