Lexington city offices will remain closed Tuesday as extreme cold slows recovery efforts following the winter storm, according to Mayor Linda Gorton.
Lexington received 5.5 inches of snow and 1.48 inches of precipitation from the storm Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. While the state received less snow than expected, Gov. Andy Beshear said during a Monday morning news conference, the storm brought more ice accumulation than anticipated.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington officials are urging residents to prepare immediately for this weekend's winter weather.
However, the city has to re-plow streets as snow falls. That means rank 1 streets, like Nicholasville and Richmond roads, are constantly re-plowed during snow events. It can take city crews several days after the snow stops falling to get to lower-ranked streets, Allen has said.
Those sidewalks with a lot of foot traffic and proximity to major services, such as Lextran bus stops, hospitals and schools, get priority. Many sidewalks in the downtown core are cleared first, according to the city’s sidewalk snow removal plan.
