More than two decades after his acrimonious split with the Jets, now-North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick reportedly reached out to the franchise about its head coach position.

The New England Patriots need a replacement for Bill Belichick’s replacement. The Patriots fired head coach Jerod Mayo on Sunday after only one season, during which New England went just 4-13.

They also lost six games in a row, including last week’s 40-7 debacle before Sunday’s win over the Bills. That’s not a good look for any team, at any level, but especially not in the NFL, where there’s supposed to be a level playing field for all 32 teams.
