Violence continues in several areas in Mexico following the killing of drug cartel "El Mencho" during a military operation on Sunday.

Twenty-five Mexican National Guard members were dead after the country's army killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, according to the Associated Press.

Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes — known as "El Mencho" — was the boss of one of the fastest-growing criminal networks in Mexico.

Mexican officials said 25 Mexican National Guard troops were killed in the ensuing violence triggered by the killing of cartel leader "El Mencho."

Clashes have erupted in western Mexico after the killing of a powerful cartel leader and Americans in parts of the country are being advised to shelter in place. CBS News reporter Karen Hua has more.

A visit ⁠from ⁠a romantic partner of infamous cartel boss Nemesio ⁠Oseguera, known as "El Mencho," led to his capture and death, Mexican authorities said in an assessment of Sunday's ​operation, after which 25 members of the National Guard military police were killed in retaliatory violence.
