Dozens of U.S. Border Patrol agents showed up Thursday morning in downtown Los Angeles, where Gov. Gavin Newsom and other California political leaders were speaking at an event, and detained at least one person in the latest high-profile immigration enforcement operation in the city.
Border Patrol was “directed, clearly by the White House, as a political operation to make a point,” Newsom said.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom often holds news conferences accompanied by state troopers, the California Highway Patrol. So it was unusual on Thursday, when Newsom was greeted by the Trump administration’s border patrol agents.
