After 13 seasons without an NCAA tournament win, BYU bested VCU and Wisconsin to earn a spot in the Sweet 16 in coach Kevin Young’s transformative first year with the team. Alabama first beat Robert Morris in the first round and advanced to the Sweet 16 with an 80-66 win over St. Mary’s (CA).

March Madness 2025 continues on Thursday, March 27, with the first four of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament Sweet 16 games. Among those teams in action are No. 1 seeds Florida and Duke, along with Alabama and Arkansas from the SEC. BYU, Maryland, Arizona and Texas Tech also take the court.
