Hakuna Matata is one of the most iconic parts of The Lion King, but there's always been some level of uncertainty about how much time really passed as Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa sang the song.

While Kenyans and other Africans can sell their own hakuna matata clothing in Africa, they can’t sell clothing with the Swahili phrase in the U.S., thanks to Disney’s trademarks.

The request to register “Hakuna Matata” was approved in 2003, but the discussion has been reignited as the company prepares to release a live-action version of The Lion King next year.
