US stocks fell sharply on Thursday, led by a decline in tech stocks as the end of the longest-ever US government shutdown was met by concern from investors that the Federal Reserve's plans for a December rate cut might be in doubt.
One of the top games to watch Friday night in Michigan is Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (8-2) at Midland Dow (10-1) in Division 2. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s entered the postseason as the No. 16 team in the final MLive Top 25. The final AP Division 2 poll has St. Mary’s at No. 4 and Midland Dow at No. 5.
The muted moves follow a bruising session in which all three major indexes posted their steepest one-day declines in over a month. The Dow gave up record-setting gains after briefly topping 48,000, while the Nasdaq led losses as major tech names slumped.
The stock market was set to open lower Friday after a sharp selloff in the previous session. Bitcoin was falling, while the dollar and oil prices were rising.
One of the top district finals to watch Friday night in Michigan is East Lansing (5-5) at Midland Dow (9-1) in Division 2.
