The Portland Fire just made a major roster shift in the middle of their three-game road trip. The team announced on Thursday afternoon that guards Sug Sutton and Kamiah Smalls have been waived, along with forward Haley Jones.
Portland's WNBA team, the Fire, was born in 2000, died in 2002 and hung over the city's head for 24 years. But they are back with the help of one of childhood fans who opened a female-sports-only sports bar — The Sports Bra — that helped convince Cathy Engelbert to bring the Fire back.
The Portland Fire had to let go of three players after their defeat to the Indiana Fever on the road on Wednesday.
