An Italian cardinal who was convicted of embezzlement and fraud said on April 29 he will not take part in the secret conclave to elect the new pope that will be held beginning on May 7 in the Sistine Chapel following the death of Pope Francis.

Cardinal Angelo Becciu, 76, announced Tuesday that he will not take place in the conclave to select the next pope following the death of Pope Francis.

And he came from Argentina, the first pope from the Americas.As the world's Catholic cardinals meet this week to discuss who should succeed Francis, the deliberations may boil down to a simple choice: Do they want another outsider?
