Former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper filed Dec. 3 to run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, who announced in June that he would not seek a third term in office. Cooper, the state's former democratic governor and attorney general, officially launched his campaign in July.
