A Malaysian court on Monday granted jailed ex-premier Najib Razak's bid to access a royal document that should allow him to serve his sentence at home, in a rare win for the disgraced former leader at the heart of the country's biggest scandal.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak stepped up efforts to serve the rest of his prison sentence for corruption at home, submitting to a court in Putrajaya what he says is a copy of a royal decree permitting him to do so.

Najib later claimed he was informed of an additional order allegedly made by the former Agong during the January 29 meeting allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under “house arrest”, although the February 2 statement issued by the Pardons Board omitted any mention of a “house arrest” order.

In a split decision, the Court of Appeal on Monday ordered the High Court to hear the merits of former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak’s judicial review.

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's appeals court granted on Monday a bid by jailed former Prime Minister Najib Razak to obtain a document that he said would allow him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence at home.

She said the sixth Prime Minister was convicted in not only one or two courts, but across all three levels of the judiciary: the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court.
