The CBS primetime lineup is evolving as we head into the summer months. So far in 2026, the network has said goodbye to a handful of its scripted series while also wrapping up The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,
The WGA East, which has represented the service’s reporters since 1954, said David Ellison and Bari Weiss had “broke its trust with its employees and its audience.”
The correspondent signed off for the last time after 20 years, nearly crying as he said “I’m Anderson Cooper” for a final time. But in an “Overtime” online segment, he also expressed hope that the venerable news show would uphold its “independence” ― which has been seriously disputed as CBS News leans right under Weiss.
This may be because younger Americans tend to be more familiar with AI. Previous CBS News polling has shown that younger people report using AI themselves and having a good understanding of it in higher numbers than older people. Anthony Salvanto and Fred Backus contributed to this report.
